Heinrich Lorenz Berckelmann

Heinrich Lorenz Berckelmann (born May 9, 1614 in Helmstedt , † February 24, 1661 in Hameln ) was a German pastor and son of the Lutheran theologian Theodor Berckelmann . He preached in Strasbourg and was pastor of St. Boniface Minster in Hameln until his death .

origin

Berckelmann came from two families closely related to the Guelphs . His father was an influential Lutheran theologian in the recently reformed Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . Anna Sophia, his mother, was the daughter of the ducal house marshal Heinrich Mehrdorf. His descendants kept the personal and economic ties to the dukes of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and were repeatedly their godchildren.

Life

Heinrich Lorenz attended grammar school in Göttingen until 1633 and other schools in Hanover from 1634 . In 1635 he began his theological training at the University of Helmstedt . Study trips to Marburg (1639) and Strasbourg (1640) followed. At the University of Strasbourg he graduated in 1641 with a master's degree and was at the coronation of Emperor Ferdinand III. present. In 1643 he became pastor of the parish of St. Boniface in Hameln.

On May 21, 1644 he married Anna Katharine Ude from Münden . He had seven children with her. His son Lorenz was the ducal administrator and confidante of Duke Rudolf August von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

In a sickly condition, Heinrich Lorenz visited the lawyer and later Hamelin mayor Christoph Joachim Bucholtz in the Dempterhaus on February 24, 1661 . In this house, which Bucholtz 'father-in-law Tobias von Dempter had rebuilt in 1607, Heinrich Lorenz fell on the spiral staircase and broke his neck. Berckelmann was buried in the Hamelin Minster of St. Bonifatius.
