The Gspaltenhornhütte is a mountain hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club SAC in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
location
The hut is located on the western flank of the Gspaltenhorn at an altitude of 2450 m above sea level. M. The altitude for the old hut was 2,390 meters.
history
The first hut was built in 1902 and “restored” in 1910, which suggests that it was demolished by the forces of nature. In 1911, at the foot of the Wildstein, a wooden building was built by the SAC Bern section with 20–30 beds. In 1936 the decision was made to close the hut and after the new hut opened in 1937 to demolish the hut after it was discovered in 1932 that the rock head above the hut was badly weathered and the hut was more and more endangered by falling rocks.
In 1952 the stone house from 1937 was destroyed by an avalanche and in 1953 the new building, which nestled against the rock, was opened.
Access
The easiest way to get to the hut is from Griesalp . A longer access is from Mürren via Sefinenfurgge (2612 m). From the Oeschinensee (1600 m) you first have to climb to the Hohtürli (2778 m) and after a descent you have to cross the glacier tongue of the Gamchi Glacier (1950 m). Alpinists can also reach the hut from the Mutthornhütte via Gamchilücke (2837 m) with climbing passages and glacier crossings.
