Guðrún Helgadóttir
Guðrún Helgadóttir (born September 7, 1935 in Hafnarfjörður , Iceland ) is an Icelandic children's author and former politician .
Life
Guðrún attended the Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík high school, where she graduated from high school in 1955 ( isl. Stúdentspróf). Between 1957 and 1967 she worked there as a secretary. Between 1973 and 1980 Guðrún was a department head at the State Social Insurance Agency (Tryggingastofnun ríkisins).
For the then People's Alliance ( Alþýðubandalag ) Guðrún sat on the city council of Reykjavík between 1978 and 1982 . From 1979 to 1995 she was a representative of the then constituency of Reykjavík in the Icelandic parliament Althing , also for the People's Alliance, and from March to May 1999 as a non-party. She was the first woman to serve as president of the Althing between 1988 and 1991.
In 1974 Guðrún's first book appeared, Jón Oddur og Jón Bjarni , which was filmed in 1981 by Þráinn Bertelsson . In 1979 her play Óvitar ( English Infants ) was performed at the Icelandic National Theater. In 1981, Guðrún published Brian Pilkington's illustrated book Ástarsaga úr fjöllunum (literally A love story from the mountains ; translation was published under the title Flumbra - An Icelandic Troll Story ), one of the most popular children's books in Iceland.
