Gudrun Kalmbach

Gudrun Kalmbach (born May 27, 1937 in Großerlach ) is a German mathematician and was a professor at Ulm University until her retirement .

Life

After studying mathematics and chemistry for teaching at the University of Göttingen , she did her doctorate in 1966 under Hans Grauert on the subject of low-dimensional CW complexes in non-compact manifolds .

From 1967 to 1969 she was a lecturer at the University of Illinois , Urbana . This was followed by activities as an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts , Amherst (1970–1971) and the Pennsylvania State University (1969–1975). She completed her habilitation in 1975 at Ulm University . In 1975 she was appointed first professor at Ulm University and worked at the chair for number theory and probability theory . She held this position until she retired in 2002.

Today she lives in Bad Wörishofen .

Focus of work

Gudrun Kalmbach played a key role in developing the promotion of talented students in the field of MINT subjects .

She deals with lattice theory and measure theory also with regard to quantum structures and developed quantum logics in the 1970s . Kalmbach is a member of the American Mathematical Society .
