Guido Barthol

Guido Barthol (born February 15, 1870 in Wolkenstein ; † December 22, 1932 in Leipzig ) was a city councilor in Leipzig and at the same time head of art and director of the city's municipal theaters.

Guido Bartohl was born on February 15, 1870 in Wolkenstein. His father, Paul Barthol, was the court chief secretary in Selva.

Barthol had attended the Realgymnasium in Annaberg . In 1883 he was accepted as an extraneer (external) at the Grimma Princely School and lived with Professor Paul Schmid. In 1894 he became a trainee lawyer in Lommatzsch , Leipzig and Wolkenstein. After graduating from the Grimma Princely School, Barthol began studying law at the University of Leipzig in 1889 . Barthol ended his university career with a doctorate.

Political career

In 1896 Barthol joined the city of Leipzig. Here he was responsible as a consultant for the city's construction and building regulations and led the negotiations on the construction of the main train station , for whose planning and construction he was later also responsible. In 1908 Barthol was elected to the city council and in 1914 to the city council for life.

In 1918/19 Barthol took over the department for the city's theaters, including the opera, as well as their administration and directorship. In addition, the entire city art department was transferred to him, which included the supervision of the city ​​library and the city museums. In addition, Barthol represented the city of Leipzig in the directorates of the Gewandhaus and the State Conservatory .

On June 30, 1932, Barthol retired for health reasons. Barthol died on December 22, 1932 at the age of 62 in Leipzig. Today a bust in the Leipzig Opera House commemorates Barthol.
