Johannes Leopold Martin Arpe (born July 29, 1897 in Hamburg ; † October 3, 1962 in Kleinmachnow ) was a German actor, director and theater manager.

Life

After training with Leopold Jessner at the Hamburg drama school, he made his debut at the Thalia Theater in 1915 . He later worked as a theater actor and director in Flensburg, Bad Wildungen and Görlitz. Arpe was also politically active, in 1923 he founded a group of the communist protection association of German actors in Northern Germany.

After the Second World War, Arpe, who has always been culturally involved, first became a theater director in Chemnitz and in 1951 in Leipzig. From 1954 to 1958 he was general director of the Leipziger Bühnen, but at the same time he was still an actor on the stage. Parallel to his work at the theater, he has worked in several supporting roles in film and television productions for DEFA and DFF since 1953 . From 1958 he concentrated only on film work, mostly as an actor, rarely with directing duties. He often embodied character roles, impressed as a captain, operations manager or inspector. He played a leading role as Inspector Graumann in Talking Dead , a TV series that was first broadcast in January 1963.

Johannes Arpe is buried in the forest cemetery in Kleinmachnow .
