Guillaume Daniel Louis Huet (born August 29, 1832 in Amsterdam , † August 20, 1891 in The Hague ) was a Dutch physician.

Life

The son of the pastor of the Walloon parish in Amsterdam Pierre Josué Louis Huet (born November 26, 1799 in Amsterdam; † November 12, 1846 there) and Geertruida Pauline Aletta Ledeboer (born December 6, 1802 in Rotterdam; † December 19, 1888 in Den Haag) had completed his high school instruction and medical studies at the Athenaeum Illustre Amsterdam . On January 17, 1856, he received his doctorate from the University of Leiden with the treatise Varia de Morbo Syphilitico in Nosocomio Amstelodamensi suburbano observata (Variations of the disease syphilis observed in the suburban hospital of Amsterdam) as a doctor of medicine and on March 13, 1857 as a doctor of surgery. Then he went on an educational trip to Paris , Vienna , Prague , Dresden and Berlin . When he returned to his homeland, he became an assistant doctor at the suburban hospital in Amsterdam (Buitengasthuis), on March 14, 1862 he obtained a doctorate in gynecology in Leiden, and from March 1862 he was director of the suburban hospital for ten years. During that time he made a name for himself with a few articles in the Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Dutch Journal of Medicine) and various publications of medical content.

On September 10, 1872 he was appointed professor of medicine and pharmacology at the University of Leiden. He took on this task on November 12, 1872 with the inaugural speech Over de noodzakelijkheid om de geneeskunde als natuurwetenschap op te vatten (On the need to understand medicine as a natural science). He also participated in the organizational tasks of the Leiden University and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1884/85 . He put this task down with the speech Over verdeeling van den arbeid in betrekking tot wetenschap en onderwijs (On the distribution of work in relation to science and education). From 1868 to 1883 he was secretary of the Royal Netherlands Society for the Advancement of Medicine, he was a member of the committee that established the regulations for the new Dutch pharmacies in 1874, and on May 4, 1890 he became a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion . On September 21, 1890, he retired for health reasons and retired on October 1, 1890. He spent the last year of his life in The Hague, where he finally died.

In 1862 Huet married Gerardina Cornelia Bienfait in Amsterdam, the daughter of Louis Pierre Bienfait (* December 20, 1790 in Amsterdam; † September 22, 1843 in Amsterdam) and his wife Catharina Johanna Bodel Nyenhuis (* 9 March 1796 in Amsterdam; † June 16, 1866 in Oosterbeek).
