Gunda Schihan

Gunda Schihan (* May 18, 1921 - May 31, 2006 in Braunau am Inn ) was an Austrian ceramist .

Live and act

She graduated in 1937 with the sculptor and ceramist Hans Eska an apprentice potter and then studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , where she graduated with a degree in ceramic artist.

Shortly after the end of the war , she opened her first workshop in Mauerkirchen as a freelance artist . It received public contracts such as a state coat of arms for the Braunau district administration, ceramic works of art in the Evangelical Church in Mauerkirchen and in the indoor swimming pool in Ried im Innkreis . Over the years she has exhibited her works internationally, e. B. in Zurich (handicrafts from Austria, 1958), Milan , Brussels , Chicago , Toronto , Montreal , Johannesburg and other cities. She received the gold medal at the International Ceramic Exhibition in Prague in 1962.

From 1968 until her death she lived and worked in Braunau, where she ran a joint workshop with her former student Monika Prachthäuser . She passed away shortly after her 85th birthday. She was a member of the Innviertler Künstlergilde , the professional association of fine artists of Upper Austria and holder of the Merit Medal of the City of Braunau.
