The Gungminui Party ( Korean : 국민 의 당 , Transliteration : Gungminui-dang , German : Citizens' Party or sometimes called People's Party ) is a South Korean party founded by the former entrepreneur Ahn Cheol-soo ( 안철수 ) on February 23, 2020 Founded.

With the founding of the party, which was announced since the beginning of January 2020, Ahn pursued the goal of building a similar, centrist movement as Emmanuel Macron with La République en Marche . He turned down offers to join the Mirae-tonghap party and its sister party, the Mirae-hanguk party .

In the parliamentary elections in South Korea in 2020 , the Gungminui party won three seats and did worse than originally expected. After that, rumors emerged that the party might merge with the Mirae hanguk party. The MHP achieved 19 seats, one seat less than the minimum number required to found a negotiating group in parliament.
