Life

Bechstein grew up as the son of a butcher and a saleswoman in the region around Döbeln and attended school in Döbeln from 1949 to 1962, most recently the Extended Lessing Oberschule Döbeln, where he graduated from high school. He then studied at the TH Dresden until 1968 and graduated as a graduate engineer for paper technology . This was followed by an activity as a scientific assistant in the Institute for Paper Technology of the Section for Processing and Process Engineering at the TH / TU Dresden until 1972 ; During this time, Bechstein also pushed ahead with his doctoral thesis. With the dissertation A contribution to the optimization of the chemical-technological sequence of the deinking-flotation process with special consideration of the decolorization effect and the chemical costs , he was awarded a Dr. ing. PhD . He had already been in a managerial position in a paper mill since 1972, initially in Kriebstein , and later in Technitz until 1987 . Then Bechstein moved to a Döbelner civil engineering company, where he worked as an organizer and programmer until 1990.

After his foray into politics in 1989/90, Bechstein reoriented himself professionally. He obtained a state license as a non-medical practitioner in the field of psychotherapy and worked as a professional supervisor for several years from 1999 . Bechstein moved from the Döbelner region to Leipzig in 2003 and has been living in a lifelong dream project in Jahnishausen for several years . Since he retired in 2008, he has increasingly devoted himself to his writing.

Political career

In 1989, Bechstein was one of the founders of the New Forum in the Döbeln region. In 1990 he joined the CDU . For the CDU, Bechstein ran for the first free Volkskammer elections on March 18, 1990 in the Leipzig electoral district on the lower list position 16. Although the CDU was only able to win 13 seats in the constituency, Bechstein moved into the People's Chamber as a member of the CDU by renouncing some of the candidates listed before him. Within the CDU parliamentary group of the Volkskammer, Bechstein was elected spokesman for the workers' group.

After the dissolution of the last GDR parliament, Bechstein was one of the successor candidates for the 144 members of the Volkskammer who were accepted into the 11th Bundestag . However, Bechstein did not move up to the Bundestag. In March 1991, Bechstein made a name for himself again in party politics when he was elected CDA state chairman in Saxony .
