Gunther Kühne

Gunther Kühne (born August 25, 1939 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German legal scholar.

Life

Studying law at the University of Cologne was followed by traineeship training and freelance work in the legal departments of the Ruhrbergbau business association and Gelsenkirchener Bergwerk AG (Gelsenberg AG) in Essen. From 1967 to 1970 Gunther Kühne worked as a research assistant at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1970 he completed his doctorate there with Otto Sandrock and in 1971 he obtained a Master of Laws (LL. M.) degree from Columbia University , New York City.

From 1971 to 1974 Kühne worked in the Federal Ministry of Economics and until 1978 in the Federal Ministry of Justice . a. as personal assistant to Parliamentary State Secretary Hans de With . Subsequent to this activity he held the chair for mining and energy law at Clausthal University of Technology and director of the institute for German and international mining and energy law there. In 1986 he also became an honorary professor at the University of Göttingen . In 2007 he retired .

In addition to his work on commercial law, especially mining and energy law, Kühne has presented numerous publications in the field of private international law, also in connection with its reform in 1986. He has also emerged as a journalist through a large number of publications on Jewish topics, especially on the importance and continued impact of the Jewish lawyers persecuted by National Socialism between 1933 and 1945.

Kühne has also been a visiting professor at the Universities of Nanjing and Tel Aviv on several occasions . He is a full member of the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (since 1994) and co-editor of the journal for mining law .
