Gunther Schwerdtfeger

Gunther Schwerdtfeger (born November 7, 1934 in Oldenburg ) is a German lawyer and former university professor .

Life

Schwerdtfeger studied law at the Universities of Göttingen and Munich from 1955 to 1959 . Just one year later he received his doctorate in Göttingen, still with a thesis on civil law. In 1964 he passed his second state examination in law and worked as a research assistant at the Universities of Lausanne and Göttingen, later as a research assistant to Hans Peter Ipsen at the University of Hamburg . Under this, Schwerdtfeger completed his habilitation in 1971 and acquired the Venia Legendi for the subjects of constitutional law, administrative law, social law and health law.

As a result, Schwerdtfeger took on a number of chairs before he took up his first professorship at the University of Münster in 1975 . Just one year later, he moved to the Free University of Berlin to take up a chair in public law. He stayed there for eleven years until in 1987 he moved to the chair for public law and social security law at the University of Hanover . There he taught and researched until his retirement at the end of March 2000. He is a corresponding member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

Schwerdtfeger's research focus was in particular on public law, social law, public labor law, immigration law and pharmaceutical and medical law.
