Guntis Rēķis

Guntis Rekis (* 3. November 1974 in Riga , Soviet Union ) is a Latvian luger .

Guntis Rēķis has been tobogganing since 1985. The policeman from Riga has been a member of the Latvian national team since 1997. He competed four times at the Winter Olympics in singles and finished 17th ( 1998 in Nagano ), 29 ( 2002 in Salt Lake City ), 21 ( 2006 in Turin ) and 26 ( 2010 in Vancouver ). He started several times at other major events. At the 2008 World Championships in Oberhof , he won the bronze medal in the team race with the Latvian team. At the 2004 World Championships , he finished sixth with the team. His best results in individual races in the Luge World Cup mostly on his home track in Sigulda , for example seventh in the last race of the 2006/07 season , sixth and fifth in the 2007/08 season and finally fourth in the 2008/09 season . He was only able to place better than third with the Latvian team in the team competitions in Winterberg and Sigulda in the 2007/08 season. In the Luge Challenge Cup 2005/06 , Rēķis was tenth overall.
