The Gustav Hertz Prize is an award named after Gustav Hertz in the field of physics in Germany. It arose from the amalgamation of two earlier prizes: first in 1942 and then from 1961 with interruptions in 1966 and 1990, the German Physical Society (DPG) awarded the "Physics Prize of the DPG" and since 1978 the Physical Society of the GDR the "Gustav Hertz Prize" .

The Gustav Hertz Prize, which has been awarded by the all-German DPG since 1993, is given to young scientists for an “excellent, recently completed work”. The prize consists of a certificate and prize money of currently 7,500 euros.
