Gustav Angelo Venth (born May 6, 1848 in Aachen , † April 13, 1903 in Aachen) was a German sculptor and trade school teacher .

Live and act

Gustav Angelo Venth was the son of the Aachen portrait and history painter Aloys Hubert Michael Venth and Adelheid Becker. From 1866 to 1872 he was a student in Gottfried Götting's sculpture workshop . In the meantime he took part in modeling exercises at the Technical University in 1870/71 . From 1872 to 1877 he was taken over by Wilhelm Pohl's (1841–1908) sculpture workshop as an assistant. From 1877 Venth finally settled down as a freelance sculptor.

In 1886 Venth was one of the founders of the industrial schools in Aachen, which he built up together with the director Joseph Spennrath, who died in 1902. Since 1986 this institution has borne the name of the architect Mies van der Rohe , who was a pupil of this commercial day school in 1900. Venth worked as a teacher both here and at the Aachen School of Drawing and Applied Arts .

In addition, Venth volunteered in many ways and was a member of the Catholic Citizens' Association and Electoral Association Constantia , the Concordia men's choir founded in 1839 , the Catholic Association of Craftsmen's Welfare and the Catholic Citizens Association of the parish of St. Jakob in Aachen.

Gustav Angelo Venth was married to Maria Venth, nee Errens. He suffered a stroke at the age of 55 and found his final resting place in Westfriedhof II in Aachen.
