Gustav Behrens (prehistoric)

Gustav Behrens (born October 18, 1884 in Birkenfeld , † August 20, 1955 in Mainz ) was a German prehistorian.

Life

He was the son of the savings bank administrator August Behrens and studied classical philology and classical archeology in Marburg , Bonn , Berlin and Göttingen . In 1909 he received his doctorate on the subject of Quaestiones metricae . After completing his doctorate, he became a volunteer at the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM) in Mainz and, in 1911, an assistant there. From 1922 he acted as a monument conservationist for Rheinhessen. In 1927 Behrens became the first director of the RGZM.
