Gustav Benz

Gustav Benz (born August 2, 1866 in Fischingen TG ; † January 25, 1937 in Basel ) was a Swiss pastor , preacher and pastor .

Life

Gustav Benz completed his theology studies in Basel, Marburg, Berlin and Zurich. During this time he was a member of the Swiss Zofinger Association . Gustav Benz was a pastor in Wagenhausen between 1890 and 1894 . From 1894 in Basel Secretary of the von Pietist. Entrepreneurs founded evang. Workers' association. In this function B. developed a rich caring activity among the proletariat. He advocated the coming social policy, e.g. B. for the free Saturday afternoons, the creation of a state unemployment fund (President until 1919) and the establishment of health and home care associations as well as day nurseries.

In 1897 he was appointed pastor in the newly built St. Matthew's Church in Basel .

Gustav Benz was considered one of the most famous preachers and pastors of his time. 1917 awarded him the University of Marburg the honorary doctorate title.
