Gustav Peter Bernhardt (born May 9, 1900 in Großalmerode ; † May 12, 1969 in Kassel ) was an architect, building contractor and member of parliament.

Life

Bernhardt was the son of the building contractor Karl Bernhardt and his wife Louise nee Gundlach. He was an Evangelical Reformed denomination and married in Kassel on January 19, 1929 Elisabeth Emma Franzheim (born August 11, 1905 in Schwerte (Hörde district)).

From 1906 to 1909 he attended elementary school and then until 1914 the middle school in Breslau. From 1915 to 1917 he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in his father's company and passed the journeyman's examination in 1919. During the winter semesters he attended the higher construction schools in Katowice, Kassel, Hildesheim and Weimar. In Weimar in 1923 he passed the civil engineer exam. In 1924 he passed the master craftsman's examination and became a co-owner of his father's company. He then studied architecture at the State Art Academy in Kassel. From 1929 to 1931 he was a member of the Pythagoras Lodge for the Three Rivers in Hann. Münden.

In 1928 he was elected head master of the Free Mixed Craftsmen's Guild in Großalmerode. In 1931 he moved to Kassel. From 1937 to April 21, 1945 he was the sole owner of his father's construction business. In 1939 he was called up to the Landessschützen Battalion I / IX and released as a non-commissioned officer in the spring of 1940.

politics

In the spring of 1931 he joined the NSDAP and the SS , from which he was dismissed in 1936 because of earlier membership in the lodge. After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933 he became a member of the Kurhessische municipal parliament of the Prussian administrative district of Kassel and the county day the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau for the circle Witzenhausen. There he was a full member of the State Committee and a deputy member of the Audit Committee. In the spring of 1933 he became chairman of the Kassel Chamber of Crafts as part of the “ Gleichschaltung ” . After the dissolution of the Chamber of Commerce and the formation of the Gauwirtschaftskammer Kurhessen (amalgamation of the Craft, Industry and Commerce Chamber of Kassel ), he became head of this Gauwirtschaftskammer. This was unusual in that it was usually the IHK heads that moved to the top of the Gau Wirtschaftskammer. In Kassel it was the Chamber of Crafts President and not the Chamber of Commerce President Rudolf Braun . In 1944 he was appointed military manager.

As part of the denazification , the verdict of the ruling chamber was “less encumbered”.
