Gustav Adolf Boley (born June 20, 1835 in Köngen , † February 2, 1891 in Eßlingen am Neckar ) was a German watchmaker , entrepreneur and inventor .

Life

Gustav Boley completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker in Stuttgart and then worked in Ulm , St. Gallen and La Chaux-de-Fonds , where he opened a store for watch accessories. In 1870 he returned to Germany; two years later he bought a house in Esslingen and established the G. Boley company there as the first watchmaking tool factory in Germany. Precision machine tools and vices were also produced there. Boley also exported its products abroad.

Further development

After Gustav Boley's death, his widow Elisa initially continued the flourishing company on her own. It was not until 1902 that she took on her eldest son Willi and employee Josef Leinen as partners. In 1904, however, Leinen left the company and founded his own company, which later became known as Boley & Leinen .

In 1905 Paul Pfleiderer and in 1912 Boley's second son Hans Gustav joined as partners. The descendants of Willi and Hans Gustav Boley and Pfleiderer continued to run the company for the next generations. In 1976 CNC lathes were sold for the first time . In 1985, computer-controlled machine tools made up three quarters of sales. The company became the property of the Citizen Group in 1992 .
