Gustav Diesterweg

Gustav Diesterweg (born June 2, 1875 in Berlin , † January 4, 1953 in Munich ) was a German officer , most recently an SS brigade leader and major general of the Waffen SS in World War II .

Career

After finishing school, Diesterweg embarked on a military career with the Prussian army from 1894 and took part in the First World War. After retiring from the army with the rank of major, he made a living from spring 1920 to 1935 with various occupations.

He joined the paramilitary organization Stahlhelm in 1929 and was a member of the SA after the Nazi seizure of power in 1933/34 . He was also a member of the DAF . Since 1935 he has been a member of the SS (SS-No .: 259,554) and since the beginning of May 1937 also a member of the NSDAP (NSDAP-No .: 3,958,887). He was also a member of the Lebensborn .

After joining the SS, he was initially assigned to the SS main office (procurement office) and became its head from 1937. During the Second World War , he switched to the Waffen SS on January 1, 1940 as SS-Obersturmbannführer . On October 1, 1940, he became head of the SS weapons inspection (Munich office) and head of the SS weapons master school in Dachau. From April 20, 1941, he became the head of the weapons engineering school of the SS Munich-Dachau. On January 25, 1942, he was transferred to the command reserve of the Waffen-SS in the SS Leadership Main Office. On January 30, 1944 he was appointed SS-Brigadführer and Major General of the Waffen-SS.
