Gustav Henrik Jøns Johannsen (born August 2, 1840 in Gunneby , † October 25, 1901 in Flensburg ) was a teacher, newspaper editor and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Johannsen attended elementary school until confirmation and later the teacher seminar in Tondern . Thereupon he passed the teacher examination at the Soeborgs Seminarium in Copenhagen . From 1861 to 1864 he was a teacher in the Duchy of Schleswig. After the occupation of Schleswig by Prussia, he was dismissed in 1864. Afterwards he was a bookseller in Flensburg and from 1869 to 1882 editor of the Danish daily newspaper Flensborg Avis . From 1889 he was co-editor of the scientific and political magazine Sønderjydske Aarbøger . He was also the founder and director of Spare- og Lånekasse Flensborg og Omegn (in German: Spar- und Kreditskasse Flensburg und Umgebung, today Union-Bank AG ) and from 1897 he was the owner of a farm in Aagaard near Flensburg. He was also a city councilor, church elder and member of the Propstei Synod for the Propstei Flensburg.

From 1881 to 1884 and from 1886 until his death he was a member of the German Reichstag for the Danish minority, and from 1888 until his death he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Johannsen died on October 25, 1901 after a serious illness. In Flensburg, the Gustav Johannsen-Skolen , a Danish school, is named after him.
