Gustav Justi
Gustav Justi (born November 25, 1810 in Idstein , † March 31, 1879 ibid) was a German liqueur manufacturer and member of the state parliament.
Justi attended the Latin school in Idstein and from 1825 completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist at the local pharmacy in Nastätten and Langen-Schwalbach with pharmacist Seris Bertrand. From 1828 he studied natural sciences and philosophy in Marburg and Heidelberg . After graduating, he worked as a pharmacist's assistant in Michelbach, Wittlich , Laasphe and other places. In 1837 he founded a liqueur company in Straßebersbach, but in 1840 he moved to Idstein, where his political career began.
During the March Revolution in 1848 he became chairman of the Idstein security committee and vigilante commandant. As head of the liberal party and the democratic association, Justi took part in the Idstein Democratic Congress on June 10, 1849 . He was then charged with high treason along with others, but acquitted in 1850. 1848-1851 he belonged to the constituency of the Duchy of Nassau for constituency XI (Idstein / Wehen) . From 1868 to 1879 he was a member of the Nassau municipal parliament for the constituency of Untertaunus . From 1871 to 1879 he was also a member of the state committee. As a long-time member of the municipal council, Justi was one of the most influential men in Idstein until his death.
In 1860 he was one of the co-founders of the advance payment and credit association, a forerunner of today's VR Bank Untertaunus . The city of Idstein erected a memorial for him in front of the town hall in 1880, which no longer exists today. In 2011, a bronze bust of Gustav Justi was placed in front of the main building of the VR Bank. The design for this comes from Waldemar Schröder .
