history

Bust of Gustav Justi in Idstein

The Idstein liqueur manufacturer and MP Gustav Justi initiated the establishment of a cooperative bank under the name of the advance and credit association in Idstein. Important dignitaries of the city were represented at the founding meeting on December 18, 1860. So the city calculator F. Frankenbach, the deputy mayor Christian Moog and the Paulskirche delegate Wilhelm Rübsamen.

Within the first two years it was possible to gain 400 members from a population of 2000 citizens in Idstein, who paid in cooperative shares of 50 guilders each  . In 1910 the bank had 1200 members. One of the reasons for the success was the earnings situation. Until the First World War - with the exception of the year 1885, in which a loss of 396 marks and 39 pfennigs was made - profits were always made. In 1921, “Advance” was renamed to Vereinsbank.

The hyperinflation at the beginning of the twenties led to a grotesque inflation of the balance sheet and the almost complete devaluation of the assets , most recently a balance sheet total of 1.5 trillion marks was reported. With the introduction of the Goldmark, the balance sheet total was only 203  Rentenmarks and 12 Pfennig. In the following years the bank experienced a steep upswing again. The world economic crisis of 1929 was also survived on its own. In 1935, the Gleichschaltung led to a purge of the bank. With the currency reform in 1948, the balance sheet total was reduced by five million Reichsmarks .

The economic miracle also led to an excellent development of the bank in Idstein. Since 1968 discussions have been held about a merger of the bank with the Agricultural Buying and Selling Association, which in 1978 led to the merger to form Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Idstein .

The agricultural buying and selling community was founded in Idstein in 1917. In 1924 it had 68 members, in 1934 there were 210 members. After several mergers in the 1930s and 1940s with other savings and loan funds, the cooperative had grown so much in 1942 that it had savings of 262,000 Reichsmarks.

In the mid-1980s, the merged bank had 5340 members. In 1990, after the merger with Volksbank Untertaunus from Wehen, today's name VR Bank Untertaunus was introduced.
