Gustav Ludwig Baden (born February 29, 1764 in Altona , † August 25, 1840 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish historian and notary.

Life

Gustav Ludwig Baden, the son of Professor Jacob Baden , studied at the University of Copenhagen Law and was in 1786 appointed procurator of both rights and in 1793 at the University of Kiel a doctorate in law doctorate . In 1794 he became mayor in Nakskov , 1795 chief judge on Lolland and Falster , 1800 district bailiff in Bjerge, Aasum and Fyn, 1816 council clerk and public notary in Odense, 1818 in the Hirschholm district. From 1820 to 1822 he went on educational trips to Hamburg and Christiania , on which he did historical research. At his own request he was relieved of his offices on March 23, 1823 and from then on lived as a private scholar in Copenhagen.

Baden is the author of numerous legal writings; however, his studies of Danish cultural history are better known. His Danmargs Riges history was reprinted many times and translated into German by Ludolph Hermann Tobiesen in 1799 ( History of the Danish Empire ).
