Gustav Martin

Gustav Martin (born May 30, 1862 in Breckerfeld , † July 16, 1947 ) was a German chemist and industrialist.

Life

Gustav Martin was born the son of the silicate and chamotte manufacturer Heinrich Martin. After graduating from secondary school in Cologne-Mülheim, he studied chemistry at the technical universities of Aachen , Karlsruhe , Munich and Darmstadt . In Aachen in 1879 he became a member of the specialist association for chemists and smelters , later the Corps Montania. In Karlsruhe he joined the Corps Franconia in 1882 . After completing his studies, he worked in chemical factories and a blast furnace plant as a chemist and works assistant. After his father's death in 1885, he joined the company Martin & Pagenstecher, which he co-founded . With the transformation into a GmbH he became its managing director in 1902 and in 1922 with the establishment of the silicate and chamotte factories Martin & Pagelstecher AG its board member and general director. Martin & Pagelstecher was one of the most important companies in the refractory industry in Germany with operations in Cologne-Mülheim, Krefeld-Linn and Erckrath as well as raw material companies in the Westerwald and Hesse.

Martin was a member of the supervisory board of the AG for the chemical industry in Schalke and the powder factory Hasloch GmbH in Hasloch. He was chairman of the employers 'association of the refractory industry in Cologne and the surrounding area and a board member of the employers' association of the refractory industry in Berlin.
