history

At the age of 16, Johann Andreas Mollenhauer set out on a journey as part of his apprenticeship as a wood turner . In 1815 he left Fulda . His hiking book shows that, among other activities, he was very often involved in building musical instruments.

In 1822 he returned to Fulda and started his trade as an instrument maker. Just one year later, his instruments were exhibited in Kassel to be examined by an expert audience under the direction of court conductor Louis Spohr . Spohr was enthusiastic, so it didn't take long before Mollenhauer's instruments became famous beyond the country's borders.

Wilhelmshöher Allee

His sons Gustav and Valentin already worked with us during this time. His successor was his son Thomas. Thomas Mollenhauer's work led to numerous improvements to well-known instruments, including the development of completely new sound tools.

Various medals and awards are evidence of the high reputation of the instruments from Thomas Mollenhauer's workshop. His successes were continued by his sons Josef and Conrad. Josef Mollenhauer expanded his skills at the bassoon manufacturer Heckel in Wiesbaden-Biebrich , while his brother specialized in the construction of boehm flutes and piccoli , which he, as an enthusiastic flautist, probably also suited.

However, the collaboration between the brothers did not last. Conrad Mollenhauer broke away from his father's business and opened his own flute workshop. In his successor, Thomas Mollenhauer began manufacturing recorders after the Second World War .

Mollenhauer Fulda

The Conrad Mollenhauer company is now a manufacturer of high-quality recorders and was continued under the management of Bernhard Mollenhauer Böhmflöten. His son Johannes (called Hans) led the company through the Second World War, during which the workshop in Wilhelmshöher Allee was destroyed in a bomb attack. Hans Mollenhauer dared to start over, but died in 1952.
