Gustav Adolf Pistor (born July 13, 1872 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † March 29, 1960 in Tegernsee ) was a German chemist and manager .

Career

Gustav Pistor studied chemistry in Freiburg , Strasbourg and Berlin and received his doctorate in 1894 under Hans Heinrich Landolt .

In 1895 he joined the chemical factory in Griesheim and was promoted to the board in 1910. After joining IG Farben , he was a member of the executive board until his retirement in 1937 and then a member of the supervisory board from 1938 to 1945.

After the end of the war, Pistor testified on April 20, 1948 in the IG Farben trial as a witness in the defense of Ernst Bürgin . During the prosecution's cross-examination, Pistor testified that he oversaw the secret construction of factories producing magnesium for the automotive industry in 1934. Furthermore, there were negotiations with the Wehrmacht High Command for the production of metal for the production of war aircraft and equipment, and that IG Farben had been keeping incendiary bombs in stock for the Luftwaffe since 1935 .

From 1952 he was a member of the supervisory board of Farbwerke Hoechst AG .

In 1952 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Frankfurt .
