With the help of his teacher Anton Hanak, Gustav Resatzs found a workshop in Upper Austria , in which he quickly acquired the technical and craftsmanship of his art.

In 1924 he returned to Vienna, where he began his career as a freelance artist. In addition, Resatz studied philosophy , psychology and graphology as an autodidact . Many manuscripts on questions of art and on the subject of "talent and character" emerged from these studies .

In 1942 Gustav Resatz was drafted into the police reserve . In the same year, Hans Hafner, the then mayor of Gloggnitz , commissioned him to set up and run an art school. The school trained the arts and crafts equally, with the students being given serious tasks from the start. The "Werkschule Gloggnitz" was also a production facility. The art created there was an art of expression in opposition to the neo-classicism prevailing at the time .

On April 1, 1945, the school was completely destroyed by fire during acts of war. Resatz and his family lost all property. Furthermore, a collection of his works, including valuable ivory figures and larger-than-life wooden sculptures , as well as all manuscripts, were lost in the fire .

After this event, Gustav Resatz tried to start a new existence, he had to change apartment and workshop nine times before he could finally settle in Salzburg. Despite the most adverse circumstances, countless new works were created during this time.

Resatzstraße in the Salzburg district of Aigen was named after Resatz . A commission is currently discussing the renaming of 46 streets in Salzburg that bear the names of National Socialists (Nazis). In this context, the commissioner and historian Johannes Hofinger said: "The sculptor was a National Socialist and a racist out of conviction". He operated propaganda as a puppeteer and was head of the Gloggnitz factory school. However, a decision is not expected before 2020.
