Gustav Schmidt (General)
Gustav Schmidt (born April 24, 1894 in Carsdorf , Querfurt district ; † August 7, 1943 near Berjosowka near Kursk ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in World War II .
Life
Schmidt fought as an officer in the First World War . After the war he switched to the Reichswehr and served in various units. During the Second World War he was in command of the 19th Panzer Division . When the entire division staff of the 19th PD was captured during a Soviet counterattack, Schmidt shot himself shortly after his capture.
