Gustav Seeberger (born August 1, 1812 in Marktredwitz ; † April 21, 1888 in Munich ) was a German architectural and vedute painter and lithographer .

Born the son of a master coppersmith , Seeberger began his painting apprenticeship at the Nuremberg Art School and continued it from May 28, 1835 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . After graduating, he worked in Munich. He painted wide vedute and romantic pictures of old houses, as well as the interiors of churches and palaces, always with perfect perspective representation.

In 1853 he visited Italy, where he painted the interior of St. Mark's Church in Venice . In 1854 he was appointed professor of perspective at the Munich Art Academy. He helped other painters such as Carl Theodor von Piloty and Wilhelm von Kaulbach in solving perspective problems.

Seeberger also dealt with lithography . He created architectural images based on his own templates, as well as those of other artists, such as Max Ainmiller , Leo von Klenze , Friedrich Carl Mayer , Michael Neher . He also provided templates for steel engravings that appeared in the volume "Malerisches Baiern" published by G. Franz Verlag.

He published his experience in perspective drawing in the handbook “ Basic features of a new method for applied perspective ”, which appeared in several editions (Munich 1860, 1874, Regensburg 1880 and Munich 1884).

He retired in the summer of 1885 at the age of 73 and died three years later.
