Max Ainmiller
Maximilian Emanuel Ainmiller (born February 14, 1807 in Munich ; † December 8, 1870 there ) was a German painter . He has earned special international recognition as a glass painter .
Life
Under the direction of Friedrich von Gärtner , Ainmiller devoted himself to studying architecture and ornamentation at the Munich Academy , of which he later became an honorary member and director, before he accepted a position as a decorator at the Nymphenburg porcelain manufacturer on his recommendation . During this time he was increasingly concerned with the newly rediscovered glass painting and managed to remove all defects and obstacles in its production and thus to lead it to a new perfection. Ainmiller took over the post of inspector in an institute set up specifically for glass painting, where he developed further techniques that further increased the quality and diversity of this art.

Ainmiller is also considered to be the rediscoverer of cabinet glass painting. His works of art include the windows of the Regensburg Cathedral , the Mariahilfkirche in Munich , the Speyer Cathedral and the Bavaria windows in the Cologne Cathedral . Due to his virtuosity, Ainmiller was also in great demand as a glass painter abroad, so he created all the windows in Glasgow Cathedral , as well as individual copies in St Paul's Cathedral and the Peterhouse in Cambridge . Further works were created u. a. for churches in Madrid , Boston , Rome and St. Petersburg . As an oil painter, he was mainly active in the field of architectural painting and has also earned a lot of reputation there. His views of the Chapel Royal at Windsor Castle and Westminster Abbey are famous . In addition to painting, Ainmiller also devoted himself to sculpture , art tailoring and watchmaking . In his hometown of Munich, "Ainmillerstrasse" has been named after him since 1888.

The grave monument erected in 1871 is a portrait statue created by the sculptor Johann von Halbig .
