The Gustav Voigts Center ( German also Gustav Voigts Zentrum ) is a shopping and business center on Independence Avenue in Windhoek - Central . It is named after Gustav Voigts (1866–1934), an entrepreneur who immigrated from Germany and the first mayor of Windhoek .
The owner has been the Namibian real estate company Oryx Properties Limited since 2013 .
The shopping center has 13,200 square meters of retail space and 11,625 square meters of hotel space. In addition to various shops and the AVANI Windhoek Hotel & Casino (until June 2015 Kalahari Sands Hotel & Casino ), the headquarters and department store Wecke & Voigts , which opened in this location in 1895 , is also based here . Part of the complex is also the Alexander Forbes House with the headquarters of the largest private Namibian company Ohlthaver & List and the “Carl List Mall”, named after the entrepreneur Carl List .
