Gustav of Carisien

Gustav von Carisien (born December 28, 1786 in Berlin , † September 18, 1861 ibid) was Prussian major general and most recently chief of the general staff of the III. Army Corps.

origin

His parents were the Swedish councilor and ambassador Christoph Ehrenfried von Carisien and his wife Wilhelmine Justine Elisabeth Weißbed .

Life

He studied in Göttingen in 1804 and then went to Uppsala in 1807 . In 1809, during the Napolionic Wars , he initially served in Austria . In 1811 he served in Spanish as a lieutenant. During the war in Spain he fought in the sieges of Valencia and Cadiz as well as in the battles of La Albuera , Murviedro , Valencia , Garriga . He received the Spanish Cross of Honor for his achievements in the battle at Mistate. He became a Spanish captain in 1813, but left in 1814.

He went into Prussian service and was on August 11, 1815 Premier Lieutenant in the 28th Infantry Regiment. In 1816 he was posted to the mobile army command in France. On April 6, 1818 he was seconded to the government of Luxembourg to serve. On January 16, 1819 he was promoted to captain and on October 24, 1819 he was assigned to the general staff. On March 30, 1821 he came to the General Staff of the Luxembourg Government. On June 18, 1825 he was ordered to serve in the 29th Infantry Regiment, but on November 11, 1825 he was transferred back to the Luxembourg government. On April 5, 1830, he joined the General Staff of the VIII Army Corps. On March 30, 1838, he was appointed chief of the war theater in the General Staff. On September 25, 1841 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on September 16, 1842 he was appointed chief of the general staff of III. Army Corps. There he was transferred to Danzig as a commandant on March 30, 1844, but Colonel on March 9, 1848. On March 20, 1848, he was aggregated into the General Staff , on July 21, 1849 he received his retirement as Major General with a pension. He died on September 18, 1861 in Berlin. On September 21, 1861, he was buried in the old garrison cemetery in Linienstrasse.

In his assessment of December 31, 1847, General Krauseneck wrote : Generally scientifically comprehensive, especially well educated for his profession. Able to make appropriate use of the results of his studies and experiences. He performs the duties of his official position with great care. In eliminating all orders placed with him, especially on a business trip through Sweden, Norway and Denmark, he showed his military education and usefulness in a very satisfactory way. Well suited for a higher position, but his health is not stable and his condition sometimes requires special care. The commanding general considers him suitable for any promotion that is compatible with his health.

family

He married Susanne Marchand (1800 - March 15, 1833) in Luxembourg on October 29, 1823 . The couple had a son:

  • Ernst (* 1826; † 1859), public prosecutor ⚭ 1853 Albertina von Vincke (* 8 December 1833; † 1907)

After her death, on August 18, 1837, in Berlin, he married Friederike Mathilde Schmaltz , a daughter of Konsistorialrat Theodor Schmaltz . The couple had several children:

  • Hedwig Emilie Mathilde (* August 2, 1838; † after 1875)
