Gustave Marius L. Wuyts (born February 27, 1903 , † January 13, 1979 ) was a Belgian tug of war . At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp , northern Belgium , Wuyts won the bronze medal in the last tug-of-war competition of the Olympic Games together with Edouard Bourguignon , Alphonse Ducatillon , Rémy Maertens , Christian Piek , Henri Pintens , Charles Van Den Broeck and François Van Hoorenbeek .

In the competition that took place on August 17 and 18, 1920 (officially called Lutte à la Corde ), the eight-person team probably competed in the first competition against the US team . All that is known is that Wuyts and his team were able to prevail against the North Americans. The second duel took place against the eventual Olympic champion from the United Kingdom . The official Olympic report states that the British team of the City of London Police beat Belgium 2-0 after 29.4 and 38 seconds. Henk Janssen states that the Belgians then wanted to forego going for the silver medal against the Dutch team ; With the withdrawal of Italy, the Belgians around Wuyts were already certain of winning the bronze medal. The Dutch were finally able to convince the Belgian team to draw for silver or bronze. After 63.4 and 123 seconds, the Dutch won the duel 2-0, so Wuyts won the Olympic bronze medal.

Wuyts also took part in the shot put competition at the 1920 Games. With a width of 11.045 m, he finished 18th out of 20 participants in the qualifying round. His personal best at this point was 12.18 m.
