Gusztáv Juhász , also Augustin Iuhász , (born December 19, 1911 in Temesvár , Austria-Hungary , † January 20, 2003 in New York ) was a Romanian football player and coach . He played a total of 211 games in the Romanian Divizia A and the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság . He was also on the squad for the 1934 World Cup .

Career as a player

Juhász began playing football in his hometown of Timișoara near Chinezul , which was the leading Romanian club in the 1920s , at the age of twelve . In 1930 he moved up to the first team, a year later he moved to local rivals RGMT . After a year at Juventus Bucharest , Juhász moved to CAO Oradea in the top Romanian league, Divizia A, in 1933 .

With CAO Juhász was able to win the runner-up in the 1934/35 season , but the big hit - the championship - he only succeeded when he played for Venus Bucharest in the 1939/40 season. After only a year he returned to Oradea, which now played as Nagyváradi AC in the second Hungarian league after the Second Vienna Arbitration . After the immediate promotion he was able to win the Hungarian championship in 1944 .

After the end of the Second World War Oradea came back to Romania and the Nagyváradi AC played as Libertatea Oradea again in the Romanian leagues. Before the resumption of national game operations, Juhász switched to local rivals Crișana CFR Oradea in Divizia B before he returned to Libertatea as a player-coach in 1947 and ended his active career a year later.

National team

Juhász completed 21 games for the Romanian national soccer team , but did not score a goal. He made his debut December 27, 1934 against Greece . Although he had not yet played an international match, he had previously been called up by national coach Josef Uridil for the soccer World Cup in Italy , but was not used there.

Career as a coach

In his last season, Juhász was the player-coach at Libertatea Oradea . After he had hung up his soccer boots in 1948, he devoted himself entirely to coaching and looked after various clubs in Oradea. After a year at Explosivi Oradea, he returned to Libertatea (now as ICO Oradea) in 1950. However, he couldn't prevent the previous year's champion from building on the great successes of the 1940s.

After five years with the lower-class Dinamo Oradea team, Juhász initially retired in 1957 and only took over a coaching job at Crișul Oradea (later FC Bihor Oradea) in 1966 . In the eight changeable years with Crișul he experienced three relegations and two ascents before he retired in 1973.
