The estate in the Lower Austrian town of Ratschenhof has been a farmyard of the Zwettl Abbey since the 12th century and is still used by the monastery as a forester's house today. First mentioned in 1139, it was given a chapel at the beginning of the 14th century, which was consecrated in 1311. Right next to the listed manor there is an approx. 3.5 hectare fish pond, the so-called “hunter pond”. This was created around 1280 and is therefore one of the oldest pond management systems in the region.

The T-shaped system consists of a transverse and a longitudinal tract. It is partially surrounded by a wall and accessible to the west through a crenellated gate with round towers, which was probably built in the 16th century. The three-storey transverse wing is covered by a hipped roof. The chapel in the middle of the transverse tract was converted into a half-recessed, five-storey, octagonal tower made of rubble masonry during the renovation in 1673. This has round arched sound windows and is crowned by a bellied pointed helmet. The north side of the two-story longitudinal wing is provided with a sgraffito of two kneeling angels from the second half of the 16th century. All rooms on the ground floor have barrel vaults with stitch caps and used to be used as stables. On the second floor there is a storage room with a needle cap barrel.

chapel

The chapel of St. Philipp und Jakob has a Gothic pointed arch portal, which is surrounded by a Renaissance portal with half-columns and a blown gable. The square, rib-vaulted chapel has a pointed triumphal arch and a recessed choir with a five-eighth end and rising ribbed vault from the beginning of the 14th century. The baroque arched windows were installed around 1670.

The rococo altar dates from around 1760. It has a wall structure with pilasters , a cranked cornice and a rectangular top. On the altar sheet there is a depiction of James the Elder and on the top picture a depiction of Magdalenas as a gardener. He is also with figures of the hll. Johannes Ev. and Judas Thaddäus . The cover image shows Maria Immaculata .

The bell of the chapel was cast by Simon Urndorfer. It has a diameter of 40 cm and bears the inscription "Simon Urndörffer zu Crembs Gos Mich 1688".
