Gutworm was a death / thrash metal band from Wellingborough , Great Britain .
Band history
The band was formed in 1999. The line-up until 2005 consisted of Neil Hudson ( vocals ), Lee Mason ( guitar ), the brothers Carl and Noel Davis ( electric bass / guitar) and Wayne Minney ( drums ). They made a name for themselves with live performances in their home town of Northamptonshire , before recording their EP Torn from Me in 2000 at the Backstage Studios in Nottingham , under the direction of Dave Chang . The EP was highly praised by the British Metal Hammer and received a record deal with SPV .
In 2001 they went to Germany to record 12 songs at Karo Studios , which then took another three years to get onto the market because there were problems with their label SPV and Gutworm switched to the label Anticulture Records , where then in 2004 their debut album Ruin the Memory was released. The producer was Esoteric singer Greg Chandler . In the same year the band played at the Bloodstock Open Air . Their performance was highly praised by the Kerrang . A music video for What You Are aired on Scuzz and MTV2 .
The band then went on tour as the opening act for Byzantine . In 2005 Carl Davis got out, who was replaced for two years by Liam Durrant ( Freebase (band) ) until a new bassist was found in Glen Pywell. Shortly afterwards both guitarists got out. The band supports Jamie Hunt (ex- Biomechanical ) live for a short time . Mike Ranzetta eventually took over the guitar. In 2007 the album Disfigured Narcissus was released. The band existed for three more years before breaking up in 2010.
Music genre
Gutworm play fast to sluggish modern Death Metal / Thrash Metal in the style of Pantera , Strapping Young Lad and Meshuggah with some blastbeat passages and hardcore punk elements. The texts deal with more emotional and personal topics.
