Guy Alexandre

Guy Pierre Alexandre (born August 25, 1945 in Saint-Marc , † February 28, 2014 in Port-au-Prince ) was a Haitian sociologist , educator and diplomat .

Life

Guy Alexandre attended the prestigious Collège Saint-Martial of Spiritans in Port-au-Prince, where he became a member of the Jeunesse étudiante chrétienne (JEC). Their Christian, political and educational ideals shaped him throughout his life. From 1967 to 1974 Guy Alexandre studied political science in Belgium and sociology in Paris. He then taught at a French high school. In 1979 he returned to Haiti. He was headmaster and worked at the Institut Pédagogique National (IPN) in Port-au-Prince - theoretically, in educational research, as well as practically, in teacher training. As a professor he taught at the Université d'État (UEH), at the Université Quisqueya (both in Port-au-Prince) and at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) in Santo Domingo .

In Haitian politics, Guy Alexandre was involved in the Groupe d'Appui aux Rapatriés et Réfugiés (GARR) to defend the Haitians in the Dominican Republic and in the Mouvement d'Action Démocratique (MAD). He was a founding member of the Comité National du Congrès des Mouvements Démocratiques (CONACOM) and the civil rights movement Initiatives démocratiques (ID).

During the reign of Jean-Bertrand Aristide , Guy Alexandre was Haiti's ambassador to the Dominican Republic from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2003. From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a consultant for international relations for the Haiti interim government. He then worked for the International Organization for Migration in Haiti.

Alexandre, who was married to Evelyn Margron Alexandre and had a daughter, died of complications from a heart attack .
