Gwen Marie Obertuck (born March 31, 1980 in Oconomowoc , Wisconsin ) is an American former singer and actress . She gained fame in the German-speaking countries in the 1990s, above all through her Disney songs and her duet Wir two alone (tonight) with David Hasselhoff .
Life
At the age of nine, Gwen appeared in the Mini Stars . This is how I imagine peace (Leningrad) was her first solo production. This was followed by the duet titles Why is English so difficult (The first time it still hurt) and With a little help (Senza Una Donna) with Marina. Gwen had her first major TV appearance in the Sat.1 show Hallo Heino with Heino . In 1991 her first album ( In the Land of Fantasy ) was released. Here she sings twelve songs from and to Disney films . Further TV appearances followed u. a. in the night cafe .
1993 sang the theme song Gwen Like the Wind (Carthago) for ZDF - family series Immenhof . With this song she also won the ZDF hit parade moderated by Uwe Hübner . In December 1993 Ariola released Gwen's first duet song with David Hasselhoff . The hit celebrated its TV premiere on the ARD show Do you understand fun? with Harald Schmidt . The German title is we two alone , the English A Star Looks Down Tonight . The content is a dialogue between father and daughter about the deceased mother. It reached top ten positions in the German-language charts.
In December 1995 Gwen was seen in the Sat. 1 special Christmas For All with the Kelly Family in a duet with Maite Kelly ( softly trickling the snow ). She also performed with this song at a Kelly Family concert in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle.
In 1997 there was another production with David Hasselhoff on the Polydor label . With the duet If I Had One Wish both celebrated a comeback as a duo in major TV shows. In 2004 a third duet was recorded with Please Come Home For Christmas .
Gwen had her first television appearance as an actress at the age of 17 in a guest role as Gwen Kugler in the RTL series Unter Uns . Here she also sang her own title in English.
Since 1999 Gwen has been living in the USA again, where she first studied music and then completed an apprenticeship as a medical administrative assistant.
