Gyjho Frank (also Gyjho Hansjörg Frank) (born August 28, 1954 in Cottbus ) is a German painter .

Life

Gyjho Frank (GYJHO) grew up in Biberach an der Riss . After obtaining the technical college entrance qualification , he hitchhiked to India , which he did not reach because he fell ill with cholera shortly before the destination . He has been working as an artist since 1972, after returning from his travels through Pakistan , Afghanistan , Iran and Turkey . An begun studying architecture he gave after a year and founded the artists' group Proxima Multimedia to create with the intention to work together with artists from the visual arts, music and literature an entirely new art form. After success with experimental performances and appearances in Holland, Germany and France, the group broke up. In 1974 Frank created his first pictures in oil on linen.

Parallel to the first exhibition in the Stuttgart gallery in the Augustinum, his first catalog was created in 1979 with pictures of silence and pictures of light. After exhibitions and printed works, Gyjho published his second catalog in 1984. In the works shown in it, Gyjho focused not only on moods of light but also on information. The archaic-futuristic theme became the central content of his works. His paintings, now more expressionistic, in oil, oil tempera, mixed media, foil, deal with the tension between the micro- and macrocosm. From 1985 Gyjho experimented with sound collages made from superimposed sequences of notes, which take up this topic and which he calls sound paintings. In 1986 there was an exhibition on the subject of "German Art in the 20th Century" in the Stuttgart State Gallery and, parallel to this, a solo exhibition with pictures by Gyjho in the Döbele Gallery. The attempt involved painting spatial pictures in oil on canvas, which have a flickering spatial and also three-dimensional effect. In 1996 Gyjho Frank published the article 'The space in painting and in the digital age' as part of a collection of texts edited by Rudolf Greiner

Gyjho Frank has been passing on his knowledge in workshops and regular courses at the Filderstadt Art School since 1989.

New Planet

The compendium “New Planet” published by Wasmuth Verlag in 2014 summarizes all of his artistic work, starting in 1974 and ending in 2014. What began forty years ago with a fascination for all kinds of communication is now leading the artist again into a new, unknown dimension. The discovery of the future is expressed in his current visual language: New Planet - Fine Matter.

Immersive Art Sphere Project - Boundless Paintings - Augmented Reality

The BOUNDLESS PAINTINGS allow you to immerse yourself in GYJHO's art and life's work. Due to the high degree of immersion in the virtual reality performance, people are embedded as ART DIVER. Real and virtual world mix and complement each other. The color is detached from the canvas, all picture elements move in three-dimensional space and form their own universe. As an interactor, the viewer creates his or her own journey through the virtual painting.
