The Albertinum Coburg grammar school is a grammar school in Coburg . The branches offered today are the arts (MuG) and linguistic grammar school (SG). In 2006 the school celebrated its 200th anniversary with many events.

history

The private “privileged elementary school” founded in 1804 by the Education Councilor Ehregott Wilhelm Gottlieb Bagge received permission from Duke Franz Friedrich Anton von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld on November 11, 1806 to incorporate an “educational institution for school teachers” in the form of a seminar. This date is considered to be the founding date of the Albertinum. As early as 1807, the French directorate closed the seminar. In the same year, Bagge managed to withdraw the repeal.

In memory of the confirmation of Princes Ernst (later Duke Ernst II) and Albert (later Prince Consort of Queen Victoria of Great Britain ), the government of Saxony-Coburg named the institute "Ernst-Albert-Seminar" in 1835.

In 1920 it became the Bavarian Teachers' Training Institute, in 1935 it was converted into a six-year advanced school and teacher training was relocated to Bayreuth . After the Second World War , it reopened as a German advanced school in 1947. In 1954 the school was renamed a music grammar school and the "German grammar school". In the following year, it moved from Glockenberg to Lower Annex 1 in the rooms of the Alexandrin School. Since November 26, 1965, it has been called "Gymnasium Albertinum zu Coburg". In 1974 a new language training course was set up in addition to music.

tradition

The Ernesto-Albertina student association in Coburg emerged from the earlier Ernst Albert teachers' seminar . This was founded on June 12, 1920 by some students with the help of the then deputy head of department Professor Karl Güntzel.

The school association Ernesto-Albertina zu Coburg is not an official organization of the school, but rather an independent group.

school-building

The school building, a two-wing complex consisting of four floors, was built between 1901 and 1902 according to plans by the Leipzig architect Alfred Ludwig for the Alexandrine School and was inaugurated on August 18, 1902. A new gymnasium was built in 1966 and ancillary gymnasium rooms and a specialist class wing in 1981. Between 2006 and 2007 the school was expanded to include another extension. This includes a multifunctional room that is to serve in particular as a cafeteria and rehearsal room for the theater group. On July 25, 2006, the new organ was inaugurated with a concert.
