The Engelsdorf grammar school is a grammar school in the Engelsdorf district of Leipzig with a linguistic, mathematical and scientific profile. It was built in 1906 as the Engelsdorf School.

history

In 1906, the community of Engelsdorf had a new school built due to the growing number of residents and thus the growing number of students. As this, due to the Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk Engelsdorf (today the repair shop of Leipzig Rail Service ), could no longer accommodate the increasing number of students, the central building with the tower and the auditorium and the old gymnasium were built in 1912/1913. At that time around 1000 students were taught in 28 classrooms.

During the Second World War , school operations were stopped in April 1945 and resumed on October 16.

In 1950 it was named "Friedrich-Engels-Oberschule". After renovation work for the 50th anniversary, polytechnical lessons were also introduced, in cooperation with RAW Engelsdorf.

After the fall of the Wall in 1992, the "Engelsdorf High School" was founded. In 1996 the new gym and a directly connected sports field were inaugurated. There is now a beverage shop in the old gym.

From April 27th to 29th, 2006 the school celebrated its centenary.

The school is currently being redesigned. The main building was recently renovated and the branch in Althener Straße is currently being expanded, and the dining room has been relocated to the adjacent building and redesigned.

Data

In the school year 2010/2011 580 students were taught by 55 teachers.

There is also a wide range of all-day offers (GTAs), such as soccer, robots, yoga, entomology, table tennis, basketball, soccer, step aerobics, chess, etc. In addition, the high school also offers some working groups such as the art group and the choir .
