The Heepen high school is a public school founded in 1966 in the city of Bielefeld in the Heepen district there . In 2018, around 1050 students attended the school and were taught by around 115 teachers. Together with the secondary school Heepen it forms a school center . Despite the same municipal sponsorship of both schools, the grammar school mostly sees itself as independent of the secondary school.

Educational concept

Bilingualism

The Gymnasium Heepen has a selectable bilingual branch , which must be decided on before starting school. Usually there are 1–2 classes per year that are taught bilingually. This means that from the 6th grade onwards, one hour more English lessons are given, and from the middle school onwards the social sciences geography, politics (later social sciences) and history are also taught in English. From the introductory phase (10th grade), i.e. the start of the upper level, each student can freely choose whether he or she would like to continue receiving bilingual lessons.

For a Bilingual High School has a student from the qualifying phase (Grade 11) the subject English as a credit course pick and the third and / or fourth High School Specialist one of the social sciences as a bilingual basic course choose.

whole day

Starting with the school year 2009/2010, a compulsory full day was introduced at the grammar school . For this purpose, a new building was built with the Federal Republic's Economic Stimulus Package II , which, in addition to a cafeteria, also has classrooms on two floors. This building is used in the course of the school center together with the secondary school Heepen.

Grünasium

The "Grünasium" project is a student-supported campaign that was launched in 2011 to beautify or design the schoolyard. It comprises the basic idea of "Grünasium 1.0" and has developed from "Grünasium 2.0", the construction of an avenue of birds, to the current "Grünasium 3.0".

Prizes won

The "Grünasium" campaign was primarily funded with the following prize money:

Exchanges and partnerships

The Gymnasium Heepen has a partnership with the Collège Notre Dame du Bon Conseil in Oullins ( Lyon , France ), with which exchanges have been carried out regularly since 1984. This student exchange celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2014.

Since 1988 , exchanges have been carried out with the Amal High School Itzhak Rabin in Nahariya ( Israel ), which is a twin town of the city of Bielefeld. This had to be interrupted in the meantime due to the ongoing conflicts between Israel and Palestine .

Further, sometimes irregular exchanges are carried out with the Jianping High School in Shanghai ( China ), the Filomata Lyceum in Gliwice ( Poland ) and schools in Oakland , Maryland ( USA ).
