The Schottenbastei is a street in the first Viennese district , the Inner City . The alley is only 190 m long, its northwest section is designed as a pedestrian zone. In Nos. 1-5, the former headquarters of the Creditanstalt is (now part of the Unicredit Bank Austria , built in 1909-1912 by Alexander Neumann and Ernst Gotthilf of Miskolcy ) at no. 7-9 under monument protection standing secondary school Schottenbastei (built in 1876 / 77 by Friedrich Paul ) and at no. 10–12 the Juridicum (built 1968–1984 by Ernst Hiesmayr ). The Dehio also mentions:
- No. 4–8, an ensemble of facade-like houses built by Wilhelm Fraenkel in 1869/70
- No. 11, built by Johannes Garben in 1869/70

In the area of today's road, a section who was originally the Vienna city wall , which extends from Schottentor to the misery Bastion designated Bastion extended. This bastion was called Schottenbastei from 1821 , named after the Schottentor or the neighboring Schottenstift . After the city wall was torn down, a street was laid out at this point, which has been known as the Schottenbastei since 1862 .
