The school is located in the north of the Letmathe district of the same name, directly on the A 46 . Due to its location, the grammar school is also interesting for students from Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde , the Hohenlimburg district of Hagen and the Oestrich and Dröschede districts of Iserlohn .

history

On December 1, 1965, the Letmathe City Council decided to build a municipal high school for boys and girls for the first time for the following year. The former Wittekind school in the Oestrich district was determined as the first, provisional location. In 1969 around 300 pupils moved into the new school building on Aucheler Strasse in the immediate vicinity of Autobahn 46. In 1975, as part of the municipal reorganization of the Märkisches Kreis, the school was renamed to Gymnasium Letmathe of the city of Iserlohn , as the city of Letmathe was incorporated into Iserlohn .

Since 1975 there have been regular student exchange programs, currently with the twin city Auchel in France and Indianapolis in the USA; at that time also to Great Britain. Another special feature was the preservation of the six-day week until 1994, i.e. regular Saturday classes every second and fourth Saturday. The high school abolished this teaching model as one of the last in the city area. In October 2009, at the beginning of the 2010/11 school year, the bound full-day was introduced .

The school started offering Spanish classes in the 2008/09 school year.

In 1997 the school received its first large extension, in this case by adding a fourth floor in the building with eight classrooms. In 2010 there was another extension with a cafeteria and an upper school room, in 2012 the cafeteria was expanded.

As the first grammar school in the city of Iserlohn, the Letmather grammar school introduced the 67.5 minute lesson model in June 2012.

In the school year 2014/15, so-called mobile learning units were built on the edge of the school, which contain eight additional classrooms for the upper level. The cafeteria, the upper level room and the entrance area of the school are currently being expanded; In 2016 the schoolyard is to be redesigned.

Peter Wiedemeier has been the headmaster since the 2008/2009 school year.
