history

After the end of the Prussian culture war and the start of the newly designed state teacher training, the boarding school and classroom building for the Royal Prussian teacher training college were moved into on February 28, 1887 . It was one of the first in what was then the Rhine Province and gained a good reputation across borders. In 1923 the seminar became an advanced high school for girls who were accepted into the 8th grade and led to the Abitur. The Saarburg grammar school has been full-time school - also for boys - from grade 5 onwards since 1936. The range of subjects and the learning content are based on economic and technical progress and socio-political changes. The school was rebuilt from 2009 to 2013, since then nine additional classrooms and a cafeteria have been available, the school yard has also been redesigned and the sports halls renovated. The renovation of the scientific wing is currently being discussed.

Today's school picture

Until 1988 only English was offered as the first foreign language. Due to the continuous increase in students and the proximity to Luxembourg , France and Belgium , the school today has three differentiated language features. By choosing a second foreign language, the Latinum can be acquired at the end of lower secondary level; Spanish as a third foreign language can be continued in the upper level. In the natural sciences, the following focal points were formed: ITG in grade 6, MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) across subjects in grades 9 and 10.

The social and learning behavior of the students is practiced more intensively in the 5th grade as part of the ProPP project, partly in the team teaching process. This project is continued in the 7th and 8th grade, modified as a PiT project with a focus on addiction and violence prevention. The school supports and encourages the participation of interested and talented pupils in competitions. The results of the participants have been above average in recent years. Promoting talented students is seen as an important task of the school. In addition, all students have the opportunity to work in various working groups according to their talents and interests and to acquire further methodological and social skills. In the orientation level, remedial instruction is primarily offered to those pupils who experience transition difficulties when changing from elementary school to grammar school and who require individual guidance on how to work at grammar school.

It is common practice to open up schools by involving extra-curricular experts in the classroom. The numerous well-functioning school partnerships, student exchange programs, participation in the COMENIUS project and study trips are also seen as an effort to promote tolerance and to promote coexistence in Europe.
