The grammar school at Heinzenwies is one of two grammar schools in the city of Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland-Palatinate . With currently around 680 students, it is just as large as the Göttenbach-Gymnasium , the other of the two Idar-Obersteiner Gymnasiums, which can be attended from the fifth grade. The number of teachers is about 60.

The school is located above the narrow Vollmersbachtal and the local “school center Vollmersbachtal” in the Idar district on a wooded slope. The school center is relatively conveniently located not far from the center of Idar.

history

The grammar school at Heinzenwies is a very young school. Since there was a lack of space in Idar-Oberstein's only grammar school, the Göttenbach grammar school , the grammar school on Heinzenwies was built in 1966–1968, making it the youngest grammar school in the entire Birkenfeld district .

Already before 1968 Max Rupp and the then District Administrator Walter Beyer initiated a discussion about a namesake for the New High School. There were Emil Kirschenmann , Friedrich Christian Laukhard , Rudolf Opitz, Ludwig Starklof and Georg mouse in the discussion. In addition, they had an alternative up their sleeve by choosing a field name for the new grammar school, parallel to the Göttenbach grammar school: Heinzenwies, the former bull meadow. This option was ultimately chosen.

On August 28, 1968, classes were held in the building for the first time. In the following years the school was expanded by two pavilions as the number of students increased.

In September 1996 - 30 years after the foundation stone was laid - large parts of the main building were unexpectedly in danger of collapsing, so they were closed. First of all, lessons were moved to the nearby secondary school and moved to the afternoon. In October, two-story containers were set up in the school yard as a makeshift; lessons took place in these again in the morning. It was not until April 1997 that most of the classes could be taught in the building again. A year later, all students were taught in school again.

The renovation work continued until the summer of 1999. The inner courtyard was given a glass roof and thus became an auditorium. In April 2001 the gymnasium was renewed as the last part of the entire renovation. In the summer of 2002 a beach volleyball court was created.

Sports

The school sports club of the SSVGH Idar-Oberstein eV high school is u. a. active in sports such as soccer , athletics and volleyball . The women's volleyball team is regularly among the top places in Rhineland-Palatinate as part of the youth training for the Olympics competition and has been to the German championships in Berlin several times as national champions . The men's department of the club was in 2007 at " Youth trained for the Olympics " in Berlin. After four very successful years with the league remaining in the Rheinhessen League in 2010, the team has now disbanded due to the personal circumstances of the individual players. The high school has many outdoor sports facilities. This includes a sports field with a grandstand, a tartan field, a shot put facility and two beach volleyball fields . In addition, the high school also has a larger sports hall and a small gymnastics room, each with sufficient sports equipment.

A school newspaper appears at irregular intervals about twice a year ; its name is “Perspektive”. Also known is the theater group, which performs on two evenings each year. In the meantime, two more special days have established themselves at the Heinzenwies: the Christmas concert in December and at the end of the school year the “open day”, on which parents can attend classes. The “Open Day” has a different motto every year, which is dealt with in the afternoons after the scheduled lessons.

The school medical service (SSD) is firmly integrated into everyday school life. Under the care of the German Red Cross, students are trained in the basics of emergency medicine. Some high school paramedics have received further professional training (paramedics, paramedics). As a result, as well as the extensive equipment, which offers options for ventilation, defibrillation and diagnostics, among other things, a competent care of many emergencies is possible.

The Heinzenwies-Gymnasium has three partner schools with which there are regular student exchanges : Springwood High School in King's Lynn (England), the Collège des Tilleuls in Claye-Souilly (France) and the XX Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace in Krakow (Poland).

The Friends of the Gymnasium at Heinzenwies Idar-Oberstein e. V. was founded on June 3, 1985 and has approx. 230 members (as of 2005).

For several years the high school on the Heinzenwies has been involved in several nationwide projects, such as B. “Youth debates”, “Project Junior” or “Maths without limits”.
