Gymnocalycium rauschii is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Austrian cactus specialist Walter Rausch .

description

Gymnocalycium rauschii grows individually with dark green to grayish green, flattened spherical shoots and reaches heights of up to 5 centimeters with diameters of 10 to 15 centimeters. There are ten to 14 ribs . The seven to nine straight or slightly curved, yellow thorns turn reddish brown with age. They are 1.2 to 1.7 inches long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, light pink flowers reach a length of 2.5 to 3.5 centimeters and a diameter of 2.3 to 3 centimeters. The egg-shaped fruits are only about 7 millimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Gymnocalycium rauschii is widespread in Uruguay in the Tacuarembó department .

It was first described in 1990 by Hans and Walter Till .
