Gymnocalycium uebelmannianum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Swiss cactus gardener Werner Uebelmann .

description

Gymnocalycium uebelmannianum initially grows singly and later in groups with glaucous gray-green, flattened spherical shoots , which are often retracted slightly below the surface of the ground and, with a diameter of 7 centimeters, can reach heights of up to 1 centimeter. Older plants can reach heights of up to 8 centimeters. The eight to twelve (rarely up to 18) ribs are notched transversely between the areoles and so divided into chin-like cusps. A single central spine up to 1.5 centimeters long is rarely present. Of the five to seven chalky white, flexible and somewhat curved and often twisted radial spines, one is directed downwards. They are 0.5 to 1.5 inches long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, white flowers have a light pink throat. They reach a length of up to 3.5 centimeters and the same diameter. The broad, spherical fruits are green and up to 6 millimeters long.
