Werner Uebelmann
Werner J. Uebelmann (born March 16, 1921 in Aarau ; † March 1, 2014 in Muri ) was a Swiss cactus dealer and collector .
Life
Werner J. Uebelmann founded Su-Ka-Flor AG in the 1960s, specializing in the import, cultivation and sale of cacti . The place of business was Zurich , later Wohlen and finally Sarmenstorf . He hired the Brazilian Leopoldo Horst , among others , to collect cacti and other succulents in South America and especially in Brazil. The finds are recorded with field numbers in the HU directory named after Horst and Uebelmann . He also undertook several extensive collecting trips himself.
Taxa named after Uebelmann
The genus Uebelmannia was named in his honor .
Several types of cacti have also been named in honor of Werner Uebelmann, such as: Parodia werneri , Tacinga werneri or Gymnocalycium uebelmannianum .
